viral hepatitis
Definition
Three viruses that infect the liver: Hepatitis A Virus (HAV), Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), and Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). HAV is found in feces and can be transmitted by anal contact (oral-genital sex). HBV is transmitted by contact with infected bodily fluids (blood, semen, vaginal secretions, breast milk, and saliva). HCV is most commonly spread by sharing needles or, more rarely, by sexual contact.
